the time is always now
Life is short. Yesterday is over and tomorrow never comes.
Today is when things get done. Now is my time. My music is about self-realization. It is a tenacious commitment to the deepest part of my self - the creative power that drives me from exhale to inhale. I wish that I had been able to recognize this years ago. My music is important because it is healing. It comes through and heals me and then it reaches out and breaks your heart wide open. My intention is to be vulnerable and raw so that you, my audience, can access that in yourself. It’s an ache that reminds us we are alive in this precious human form – right now! life lessons and vision
My father, Johnny Mayer (founder of bluesforpeace.com), was a skilled blues and jazz guitarist and instilled in me the love of music. In the last three years he has fallen into the grip of early onset dementia and blindness. Often he can not understand my progress as a musician and the way that his passion has influenced me. Just as there is no way to slow his illness, there is no way for me to speed up my creative process. Never the less, his dementia has made my passion for making music more urgent.
After years of self-examination, I am now dedicated to creative expression as a full-time pursuit. My dad is still alive and even though he is very ill, I know that he can still listen to my music and resonate with the groove and melody, and on some level take pride in my accomplishments, whether or not he understands who created it. It takes a tribe of 1000 true fans to sustain a music career. There is an emerging middle class of musicians who are finding ways to create sustainable careers outside the corporate mainstream entertainment industry. We are doing this with the help of the amazing internet technology and strong grass-roots community building. With your help, that is within my reach – and it drives me to keep creating music that swells from the depths of my soul and resonates with you. Set my Wild Heart free. This album is going to be recorded in San Francisco and produced by Jordan Feinstein, an incredible keyboard player and dynamic musical talent. We are hiring some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians to play on it. We will be renting time in a professional studio and hiring pro engineers to mix and master. We will be doing this without the support of a record label or any other corporate entity. You, my friends, family, fans and followers will become the fuel for music that you care about. Not music that is shoved at you over the radio airwaves. The money raised will fund musical production, recording, engineering, mixing, mastering, printing, artwork, merchandise, promotional booking, touring and marketing. With the release of this recording, I aim to play as much live music as humanly possible – because I believe that as grand as the recording is going to be, it will never be a substitute for the energy and community created in gathering for a live performance. This past year I have played with my band Yonat & Her Muse at some of the best venues in the San Francisco Bay Area and I have earned the respect & support of the music community. Hearing Yonat & Her Muse play eclectic and groovy folk-soul songs will break your heart wide open.
Yonat Mayer, the band's front woman, songwriter and singer has been crafting songs for over a decade and performing as a solo artist. Her songwriting is reminiscent of Norah Jones meets Feist meets Lauryn Hill. She has released 2 full length albums independently on CD Baby. Yonat is currently performing at Bay Area venues and quickly gaining popularity. She is recording her debut album and hit single "Wild Hearts" to be released in the Spring of 2013. |
